April 6 – No events held

Have a great Easter everyone!

Show of the Week: HWA Hysteria 2010

A new feature I’ll be starting up here over the course of this site will be the “Show of the Week” where I highlight matches and forgotten events from the archives. Some weeks I may have the full show, some weeks there may only be a handful of matches that I’ve pieced together. Regardless, it’s a chance to get some lesser known footage out there in front of people who may not have seen it.

First up in the series … HWA Hysteria 2010. Only three matches from the show have surfaced online. Here they are in the order they appeared on the card.

Ron Mathis vs. Shank Barzini

HWA American Luchacore Title: Jesse Emerson [c] vs. Dustin Rayz

HWA Tag Team Championship: The Noble Bloods (Sir Chadwick Cruise & Lord Matthew Taylor) [c] vs. The Hybrids (Donovan Cain & Jason Lyte)

Other matches on the card were:
*Jeremy Madrox vs. Sid Fabulous
*Kyle Haven vs. Jock Samson
*Tarek the Legend vs. American Kickboxer #2
*King Vu vs. “The Madness” Chris Hall in a No Holds Barred Match

Full results from the show can be found in the 2010 results section

Check back on Easter Sunday for the next update!

This Week in HWA History (March 24th – 30th)

Happy Sunday everyone! Here’s this week’s site updates and historical cards!

Site Updates
*Added multiple TV matches from 2001-02 to the HWA on YouTube page
*Corrected results from the 3/17/04 and 3/20/06 events
*Added BPW results to the results section

With the HWA on YouTube page up and going, my next priority is to compile the title histories over the next few weeks. I’m hoping to have all those up by the end of April. I’m also still sorting through an HWA playlist I’ve found on YouTube covering a lot of the 2011-12 Hamilton era. Will get those linked up on the YouTube page soon.

Once the title histories are online, then I can move onto Phase 2 of the site which is reaching out to people for Q&A’s or interviews. Currently making a list of who I could reach out to and what the best format would be. Maybe a podcast? Not sure yet. More to come as we get closer to summer on that but would love to hear some ideas!

Celebrating CyberClash

Today in 2006, the first HWA internet PPV, Cyberclash, took place from the HWA Arena in Cincinnati. I’ve seen the whole show once, when I had the DVD, but have not seen it since. Over the years, the whole show has become elusive to find but matches from it have occasionally popped up on YouTube. I’ve been able to locate four matches from the show and here they are in their entirety on this, the 18th anniversary of CyberClash!

HWA Tag Team Championship: Foreign Intelligence (Quinten Lee & Ala Hussein) [c] vs. TJ Dalton & Matt Dillinger vs. JT Stahr & Eric Darkstorm vs. The GP Code (Andre Heart & Deja Vu)

Best of Seven Series Match #7 Ladder Match: Crazy J vs. Lotus

HWA Heavyweight Title: Pepper Parks [c] vs. Jimmy Yang

Steel Cage Match: Jon Moxley vs. Cody Hawk

I hope you enjoy these long lost matches from the first CyberClash! If anyone out there reading this has the full show or any additional matches from the show, please feel free to reach out to me at historyofhwa@gmail.com and let me know!

This Week in HWA History (March 17 – 23)

Happy Sunday everyone! Welcome to the new version of “This Week in HWA History” here on The History of HWA. If you remember, I did this for just about a year over on Substack. While it got some traction, it didn’t do as well as I had hoped and when I launched this site at the beginning of March, it kind of made that redundant. However, with me getting more and more things up and running here at The History of HWA, I thought it might be beneficial to bring in back in a more abbreviated form. In this new version, I’ll hit on site updates and go through the results that happened during the week.

Site Updates

I’ve added a new page with links to any HWA footage I’ve been able to find on YouTube. I’m not sure how many matches are on there but I would say there’s well over 100-200 matches including the matches I couldn’t find exact dates for. I will add to this as I come across more matches. I’ve also found complete TV episodes from the developmental era that I’ll be linking to as well. For now, take some time and dig into tons and tons of HWA footage!

Site and Future Content Update – 3/9/24

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to check in briefly and kind of explain what I’m hoping to do with this site in the future. Behind the scenes I’m working on new sections for title histories and HWA on YouTube. Each one will take a bit of time because of the amount of content involved but once I get them to an acceptable point, I’ll slowly roll them out. For the title histories page, I’m starting with the HWA Heavyweight Title and working from there. For the HWA on YouTube page, I’m going through the old HWA official YouTube page and cataloging/linking all the matches on there.

As I get more and more content online with this site, I’ll put up blog posts like this just to let everyone know what’s happening.

Now, as for future content, I hope to eventually make this a living and breathing site regarding the history of the HWA. I’m thinking of eventually launching a podcast and reaching out to HWA folks for interviews, be it audio or written. I want this site to tell a story and that story can only be told by those who were there. That being said, I’m aiming for sometime in the summer to start reaching out to folks as my main focus right now is getting more historical content online, such as the title histories page.

Before I leave, just a quick note on about the History of HWA Twitter account. I will be starting up with the daily results and whatnot again soon.

Thanks for your continued support of this project and as always, please spread the word!

Welcome to the History of HWA

Hi there!

Welcome to a new site chronicling the history of the Cincinnati based Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA)!

This site will be a constant work in progress. As of right now, it’s an archive for all the HWA results I’ve found. Most of the research on the results I’m doing here are results pulled from various sources including Cagematch, Wrestling Data and archives of the former HWA website on the Internet Archive. Down the line, there will be links to HWA matches on YouTube, title histories and hopefully more. When there are updates to the site, I’ll post them here in the blog on the front page. If you want to follow the page or support the page, enter your email in the box on the right hand side.

Also, who am I? I’m Adam, a long time HWA fan and supporter. I went to my first independent show in 2000, the Brian Pillman Memorial Show, then my first proper HWA show in 2002 in Middletown, Ohio at the local high school gym which featured Lance Cade against Kanyon. Over the years, I’ve gone to so many HWA shows that I’ve lost count. I went to every one of their year-end shows from 2003-2010, several events when they were part of WWF/WWE developmental and also shows from their relaunch in 2014-15, including their last ever show in July 2015.

The list of names who wrestled for HWA over the years is endless. Some of the names you’ll see in these results include stars like Jon Moxley, Nigel McGuinness, Dick Rick (L.A. Knight in WWE), Sami Callihan, Jake Crist, Dave Crist, Rosey, Eddie Guerrero, John Cena, D-Lo Brown, Rory Fox, B.J. Whitmer and loads and loads of others.

If you’d like to contribute with any information or if you have any HWA stories to tell, please feel free to email me at historyofhwa@gmail.com

I hope you come back often and while here that you’re able to learn about and discover the history of one of the Midwest’s premier independent promotions, the Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA).
